The Weirdest Pattern I’ve Tried Yet
This one’s a bit off the beaten path — and that’s exactly why I had to try it! 😄
Welcome back, it’s Kevin (aka AWOL), and today I’m tackling pattern 111087 from friendship-bracelets.net.
Unlike my usual picks, this design is full of weird twists — literally. The red, orange, and yellow all snake through the middle in chaotic (but somehow satisfying) paths, while the white/gray holds the structure. It’s unconventional, but with some symmetry magic, we made it shine. ✨
🧵 In this video:
- How to identify multiple potential centers in a pattern
- Using symmetry tools to simplify complex layouts
- Recognizing single-strand pathways in knotted designs
- Turning “what is even going on here?” into “wow, that works!”
This isn’t your typical V-line starter — but the balance pays off big time. Stick around, and let me know what you’d do differently!

Pattern 110807 really made me work for it — but wow, it came out beautiful. 😮💨
Hey, it’s Kevin (aka AWOL), and in this episode I take on a slightly chaotic, very zigzaggy design that surprised me by finishing in just over an hour. And yes, I double-checked that red zigzag a few times!
🧵 What’s inside:
- A closer look at the “straight edge” technique — does it really help?
- Balancing symmetry when the pattern itself isn’t helping you
- Working with repeated shapes and color density
- Real talk about confusion, procrastination, and powering through 😅
It’s definitely intermediate-level — not ideal for beginners — but if you like a challenge and want a piece that pops, this might be your next project.
