I Tried Mirroring This Rainbow Bracelet Pattern… Things Got Weird!
This friendship bracelet pattern is MUCH more complicated than it first appears. 🌈🧵
Today I’m working with friendship-bracelets.net pattern #110595—and I have to give some serious credit to whoever originally designed this one. Following where all of these strings travel took some concentration!
My plan is to start in the middle of the pattern, reverse-engineer the paths of the individual strings, and then FLIP the design to create a mirrored version.
Will that actually make the bracelet easier to make?
I have no idea. 😂
But we’re going to find out!
Since I haven’t made a rainbow bracelet in a while, I’m also going with the classic:
❤️ Red
🧡 Orange
💛 Yellow
💚 Green
💙 Blue
💜 Purple
As I started tracing the individual strings, some unexpected things began happening. Certain colors only appear for a single knot in places, strings turn corners in ways I wasn’t expecting, and mirroring the design causes some colors to almost disappear from sections of the bracelet.
This is exactly why following the UNDERLYING strings is so important when you’re trying to understand or modify a friendship bracelet pattern.
I start with the easiest paths I can identify and fill those in first. Once those are established, there are fewer possibilities left for the confusing strings—and suddenly those become much easier to figure out.
Eventually everything comes together into an arching rainbow design that I think could be REALLY pretty.
Now I just have to actually make it. 😅
Will mirroring the original design make this bracelet easier?
Or did I accidentally make an already complicated pattern even harder?
Come back tomorrow for the making video and we’ll find out!

Why was one HALF of this friendship bracelet so much harder than the other?! 🌈🧵
Today I’m making friendship-bracelets.net pattern #110595, an unusual 12-string design that looks like a bunch of little colorful blocks fitted together.
When I first saw the pattern, I thought figuring out those blocks was going to be the difficult part.
Nope!
Once I understood how the pattern worked, the actual knotting was relatively easy. The real problem was ROLLING KNOTS.
If you’ve ever tied a knot in one color only to have the string underneath suddenly peek through, you know exactly how annoying that can be. It happened over and over throughout the first half of this bracelet.
Then I reached the middle.
I had already modified the original pattern so that the design flips and travels back in the opposite direction for the second half.
And suddenly…
NOT ONE KNOT ROLLED.
Seriously. 😂
I’m still not completely sure why the flipped direction behaved so much better, but if I made this bracelet again, I would seriously consider using that easier orientation throughout the whole thing.
There were a couple of other challenges along the way. The unusual center had me worried that I might get the rainbow colors out of order, and the bracelet REALLY wanted to curve while I was making it. I had to keep straightening it so I didn’t end up with a rainbow banana. 🍌🌈
Fortunately, it all worked out!
⏱️ Total knotting time: almost exactly 1 hour and 30 minutes.
This is a 12-strand bracelet made with single strands, so only six strings go up into the loop.
And, of course, I had to use six colors:
❤️ Red
🧡 Orange
💛 Yellow
💚 Green
💙 Blue
💜 Purple
The finished design reminds me of little LEGO-style blocks fitted together. Now I’m wondering what this would look like in classic toy-brick colors—or even as a color fade!
