Will This Random Color Pattern Actually Work?
Hey friends! It’s Kevin (aka AWOL), and today I’m diving into a little bracelet experiment using 16 random colors to create a totally new pattern concept. Inspired by the “boxy” look from the last video, I wanted to see what happens when you swap out the high-contrast rainbow effect for a more mixed, unpredictable palette. 🤔
Will your brain still pick up on the pattern? Or will it look like a jumbled mess? Only one way to find out!
We’re keeping this short and sweet today—I already dropped in most of the colors to save time—and now I’m just filling in the final bits and seeing if this “big box / small box” setup actually creates something visually interesting.
Along the way, I share a tip about using the color picker tool with a larger radius and how it affects the way thread colors show up in patterns.
This is totally an experiment, and who knows—maybe it’ll be awesome once it’s knotted up. 😅 Either way, we’re learning and creating, and that’s what it’s all about!
👉 Big thanks to my YouTube members for helping keep the threads rolling. You’re amazing and I seriously couldn’t do this without you.
And here is my pattern. Click it to get the PDF in higher resolution.

In this video, we explore a wild 16-color friendship bracelet experiment! I wanted to test whether the classic open-box design still reads visually when the colors are way less contrasty—and the results? Kinda cool, actually!
💡 Key takeaways:
- Can subtle color differences still reveal bold design features?
- Why ergonomics matter a lot more than you think (my shoulder pain says hi 👋)
- How tiny setup changes can wreck your workflow—and how to avoid it!
- What’s coming next: a solid-knot box version + return to the rainbow setup!
