Red to Black Variegated Bracelet Twist
Hey everyone, Kevin here—aka AWOL—and today we’re revisiting a familiar pattern… but with a twist. This layout may look like something I’ve done before, but I’m flipping the script: smaller diamonds in the center, larger on the edges, and a striking red-to-black variegated floss to change the vibe entirely.
🎯 In this design session:
Reworking a past pattern for a fresh look
Why the smallest diamond goes in the center this time
How to use GIMP/image tools for fast symmetrical planning
Tips for choosing floss colors when red + black don’t quite match
Warnings: you’ll need extra long threads for the red/black strings
This marks the final bracelet design in the variegated floss challenge series—huge thanks to all my YouTube Members who made this creative journey possible!

Hey everyone! Kevin here, aka AWOL—and today marks the end of the variegated floss challenge series! 🎉
We’re wrapping up this two-month journey with pattern 28776 and kumi 991 from friendship-bracelets.net. This one was a blast: vibrant red-to-brown variegated floss against a light blue background. The pattern is eye-catching and the backside? Absolutely fascinating thanks to a few “rule-based” design choices I set for myself.
🎯 What we cover:
- Consistent knotting techniques for clean front + striking back
- Rules I followed to give the bracelet structure and flow
- Why this isn’t beginner-friendly (zigzags + directional crosses!)
- String length issues from using a new floss supplier 😬
- And a final tally on just how much floss I’ve used recently (spoiler: it’s A LOT)
🧵 Pattern: #28776
