Designing a Bold Bracelet with Pattern 21224

Hey, it’s Kevin—aka AWOL—and today we’re planning out something bold! This video kicks off the process behind a new bracelet using pattern 21224 from friendship-bracelets.net. But I’m not just following the pattern—I’m reimagining it for a red and gray variegated floss combo that I think is going to pop.

🎯 In this session:

Pattern orientation + centering tips

Color theory talk: why red + gray?

Using image editing tools to test your layout before knotting

Playing with design changes (fewer diamonds? longer segments?)

Why not being predictable = more learning and more fun!

This one could be beginner-friendly depending on how you approach it—no zigzag knots this time around. But I’m testing how those long segments and variegated threads behave in real time.

And here is my pattern. Click it to get the PDF in higher resolution.

Hey everyone! Kevin here (aka AWOL), and today I’m diving into a really interesting friendship bracelet combo: pattern 21224 and kumi 2019 from friendship-bracelets.net.

✨ What makes this one stand out? It’s the long segments that let variegated floss really do its thing—full color transitions without touching another string. The effect is mesmerizing, though it comes with some unique challenges (hello, uneven string lengths!).

🔴 I also talk through:

Why this could almost be beginner-friendly

How I zigzagged the string path to preserve color flow

The platinum-tone palette and how it might be “graphite dusty” depending on your perspective

Ideas for doubling the pattern or turning it into something larger like bags!

⏱ Time to complete: Just over an hour
💡 Tips for working with variegated floss, segment tracking, and color management inside!
