Same Pattern, Bigger Knots, Different Look
After making the double-wide version with single strands, I couldn’t stop thinking about one more variation…
What if I doubled the strands instead?
In this video, I redesign the same custom pattern to work with doubled strings. The bracelet will be physically smaller because each knot is larger, but there are far fewer knots to tie. That means it should be much faster to make while keeping the bold look of the original design.
I also walk through my process for laying out the pattern, filling in the string paths, and using symmetry in GIMP to build the full bracelet from just one quarter of the design.

What happens when you take an already unusual friendship bracelet pattern… then double the width and double every string?
That’s exactly what I wanted to find out.
This bracelet started as an experiment to see whether a single string could travel all the way across a pattern without running out. After making the original version—and then a doubled-width version—I decided to push it even further. The result is a double-wide, double-stranded bracelet that turned out even better than I expected.
It took me just over 2 hours and 13 minutes to make, and while the pattern itself is surprisingly simple once you understand how it works, scaling it up definitely changes the experience.
