Designing a Spiral Friendship Bracelet From Scratch
Can an entire friendship bracelet be built from nothing but spirals?
That’s the challenge I set for myself in this video.
Starting with a blank 8-string template (16 working strings), I design a brand-new friendship bracelet pattern completely from scratch. The goal is to create spirals that twist in multiple directions while making sure every string has a valid path through the bracelet.
Instead of guessing, I work through the pattern one strand at a time, solving problems as they appear and explaining the reasoning behind each decision.

Could the classic “Greek Wave” friendship bracelet be transformed into something completely different?
That was the idea behind this experiment.
Inspired by pattern #5347 from Friendship-Bracelets.net, I wondered what would happen if the spirals didn’t all travel in the same direction. By using single-stranded strings with alternating light and dark colors, I was able to create a bracelet filled with six spirals flowing in multiple directions.
The result is a design that almost looks like ocean waves. At first it feels random, but the longer you look, the more the mirrored structure begins to reveal itself.
