Designing a DNA-Inspired Bracelet
Today we’re experimenting with a new pattern inspired by #28776 from friendship-bracelets.net. Instead of just following the original, I wanted to see what would happen if I left four squares in the middle and created a zigzag DNA-style spiral running down the bracelet.
It’s still a 12-string bracelet, but with two strings swapped into different colors to create that spiraling “double helix” effect. Think red + blue on a neutral background (I went with gray this time). The result? A bold, balanced, and super interesting design.
✨ Key Points:
Inspired by: Pattern #28776
New Variation: 12-string “DNA spiral” with colored overlaps
Difficulty: Intermediate (requires direction-changing knots)
Background: Neutral gray (but easy to swap for contrast)
Future ideas: larger diamonds in the center, alternative spacing versions
This is one of those patterns that sparks a ton of new ideas—can’t wait to knot it up and show you the results in the next video!

Hey everyone, it’s Kevin (aka AWOL), and I’m back with a super chill bracelet tutorial that’s perfect for anyone wanting to dip their toes into zigzag knots. 🎉
This pattern came from me just messing around after spotting something similar — and it kind of spiraled from there. I don’t have a pattern number for it, but don’t worry: you can grab the full pattern from my site 👉 akaawol.com
🔷 What makes this bracelet great?
Easy repeating pattern (hello, muscle memory!)
Looks like a DNA strand 🧬
Fantastic for practicing zigzag knots without stress
Ideal for longer pieces like anklets or even a ukulele strap (if you’re brave enough)
🧵 Materials:
Red + blue and gray threads (note: red and blue they get used up faster!)
Patience… kind of. Honestly, it’s super intuitive once you get going.
⚡ Pro Tips:
You only zigzag at the corners – the rest is straightforward knots
Watch your thread lengths if you’re planning a longer piece
Clicker counters exist for a reason… just saying 😂
