Turning 6 Shades of Blue Into a Bracelet Design

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t making the bracelet—it’s designing it.

For this project I already had six shades of blue cut and ready to use, but I didn’t have a pattern. Instead of searching for one that almost worked, I decided to build a brand-new design from scratch.

To make the process easier to follow, I use rainbow colors while mapping the pattern. Once the design is finished, those colors will be replaced with six shades of blue, creating a smooth gradient with a dark center diamond and lighter shades fading outward.

Sometimes the simplest friendship bracelet patterns end up being the most satisfying.

Today’s bracelet is based on Pattern #28, one of the earliest patterns I ever created. The design itself is a simple arrowhead, but this project was really about exploring color placement instead of changing the knot structure.

Using six shades of blue, I arranged the colors so the darkest tones gather toward the center while the lighter shades fade toward the edges. The result reminds me of tie-dye—or even a drop of ink spreading through water—and it’s one of my favorite color effects I’ve made in a while.
