This EASY 12-String Bracelet Surprised Me!
In today’s video, we’re reverse-engineering pattern 8474 from friendship-bracelets.net using my custom graph paper template — available at https://akaawol.com! This one’s all about balance, symmetry, and choosing the right contrast for variegated floss.
🟢 I’m using a green variegated floss against a gray background to make the central shapes pop — but I’m not 100% sure how well it will blend with so many crossing strands. That’s part of the experiment! These videos are part of a series where I test different ways to use up a full variegated floss sampler and document what works (and what doesn’t).
🔍 As usual, I’m not following the instructions, just the pattern itself — training myself (and hopefully you too!) to recognize and recreate designs purely by eye.
And here is my pattern. Click it to get the PDF in higher resolution.

Hey everyone! Kevin here—aka AWOL—and today we’re tackling a super fun and surprisingly easy 12-string bracelet using pattern #8474 from friendship-bracelets.net
. This one’s beginner-friendly and great for practicing clean alignment and color control—especially if you’re curious about using variegated floss!
📌 Kumi in the background? That’s pattern #2223, also from friendship-bracelets.net. Another simple but stunning piece if you’re ready to give kumihimo a shot.
💡 What I loved:
No complex knots—just your trusty forward and backward.
Easy to memorize—no pattern needed after a few repeats.
A fantastic intro project for color mixing or even double-up designs!
🎮 Yes, I got a little distracted by a game, but this one still only took about an hour (even with snack breaks and phone detours!).
🧵 Pro tip: Keep an eye on the direction of your stripes—do little course corrections as you go to avoid drift.
🌈 If you’re loving the variegated floss experiments, drop a comment! Should I test more? Try themed sets? Let me know what you’d like to see next.
🙏 Big thanks to my YouTube Members for supporting the string habits and experimental tangents. You all keep this craft corner going strong.
