Designing a New Elongated Arrowhead Bracelet

Hey everyone, it’s Kevin (aka AWOL), and today I’m designing a brand-new arrowhead-style bracelet pattern—but with a twist: instead of stopping at one diamond, this one stacks multiple diamonds in a row, stretching the design and changing the entire rhythm.

🌀 What makes it different?

  • A diamond, followed by another diamond… and another
  • Odd number sequencing (like 5-3, then 4s and 2s)
  • Super elongated layout that looks deceptively complex

🎨 I used the last of a 3-set color scheme I prepped earlier, and as I traced each string, I discovered some wild starting positions (yellow at the end??). But that’s the power of pattern tracing—you find out what works by following the path.

🛠️ Tools: GIMP for graphing (yes, with that new anchor/merge layer update)
🧠 Skills: Logic, symmetry, and trusting that it’s all going to work out

✨ If you’ve ever wanted to design your own pattern from scratch, this video shows exactly how I do it—even when I don’t know how it will turn out.

Hey everyone, it’s Kevin (aka AWOL), and today I’m wrapping up a bracelet that challenged everything I thought I knew about arrowhead designs.

This isn’t your average zigzag. This one:
🔸 Starts with a chevron… then skips
🔹 Breaks the usual flow with unpredictable diamond placements
🔸 Changes the number of knots per row mid-pattern
🔹 Absolutely refused to be predictable

I spent the first half of this bracelet checking the pattern constantly, trying to figure out what was happening. But the moment I hit the central diamond and flipped direction? It all made sense. Like walking backward, it worked—you just had to trust the process.

🎨 Time: ~2h10m (a little longer than usual thanks to all the checking)
🧶 Most-used strings: pink, purple, and blue
📏 Could probably get away with quarter-length cuts, but I used thirds (safer!)

💡 Bonus takeaway: Not every great-looking bracelet shows how hard it was to make. Sometimes it’s about how it feels to the maker—and this one felt like a breakthrough.

🎥 More experimental bracelets coming soon—maybe even a 12-string mashup?

And as always: Don’t get your strings in a bunch.
