Can I Turn This Forgotten String Bundle Into a Beautiful Bracelet?

Another mystery string bundle, another pattern challenge!

I still have several kumihimo loops that I prepared long ago with no notes about what I planned to make with them. This one is a 16-string bundle with four shades of blue and four shades of brown, so I searched friendship-bracelets.net for a pattern that would fit.

The result is something completely different from anything I’ve designed before.

In this video I adapt the pattern to my color palette, work through the string paths, and figure out how all eight colors should flow through the bracelet. With several shades that are very close together, reading the pattern becomes a challenge in itself, making this a more advanced design than the previous bracelet in the series.

Will it knot as well as it looks? We’ll find out in the next video!

This is the finished version of Pattern #90712, adapted to a custom blue and brown color fade—and it turned out even better than I expected.

Before tying a single knot, I centered the pattern so it begins and ends the same way. It’s a small adjustment, but one that gives the finished bracelet a much more polished appearance, and it’s something I encourage whenever you’re designing or modifying patterns.

Even though this bracelet only took about eight minutes longer than my previous 16-string project (1 hour 28 minutes total), it felt significantly more challenging. The biggest reason? The subtle color fade. With several shades of blue and brown sitting right next to each other, I constantly had to double-check that I was following the correct string. It’s one of those patterns where concentration matters more than speed.

There are plenty of zigzag knots throughout, making this a solid intermediate-to-advanced bracelet rather than something I’d recommend for beginners. My advice is simple: don’t worry about knotting as fast as possible. Find a workflow that helps you avoid mistakes, even if it means breaking long rows into smaller sections. A few extra seconds of checking the pattern is much faster than undoing dozens of knots.

This bracelet is part of my ongoing mission to finally use up several mystery string bundles that I prepared years ago without writing down what I intended to make. One more finished project means one more silicone bobbin returned to the collection!
