Challenge One
What started as a simple friendship bracelet pattern request soon became something much much more. I was given an extraordinarily different fancy candy and almost immediately I saw the possibility of changing this to a fancy chevron. The beauty of the fancy candy design is that there are endless variations. And all those possibilities inspired this challenge.
What you have to do:
- Take one of the two templates (see below) and tweak it however you like to make it your own.
- Then, of course, knot the actual friendship bracelet.
- Share it on your Instagram feed/stories with the hashtag #AkaawolChallenge (you can tag me at @akaawol too). If you’d rather not make it public, then just send it to me via Discord.
I have created two different templates that you can use that makes this whole process a whole lot easier and I’m providing the (DMC) colors I used in my template: 470, 472, 600, 606, 666, 702, 726, 824, 826, 943, 958, 970, 3803, 3810, 3834, 3854. So it’s pretty easy to spot the difference in the two different examples. One flips and mirrors itself halfway through while the other one just continues down as a straightforward chevron
So how to make the changes to these patterns is rather simple. Take a look at the underlying string and make it come over top of the existing color so as to make a change. This can be a simple line that runs from the highest point down to the lowest or some other variation you like. Take a look at these examples and let your imagination go wild.
If you are at all a beginner in friendship bracelet making, I suggest just using the one that goes down as a simple chevron. If you’re a bit more advanced and you’re looking for a challenge, then by all means try the other one. I’m hoping that at the end of this challenge, there will be a lot of examples that we can all share over here on this webpage to really inspire everybody into creating patterns for themselves.
Can’t wait to see what you create. Please join this challenge and tell all your fellow knotter friends to join too!
