Handmade Christmas: Friendship Bracelet Ornament Prototype Number 1

This particular Christmas ornament isn’t really for beginners as some steps are a bit unusual. That said, I’ve tried to make this as easy as possible. Here’s how:

It starts with this L-shaped pattern. In the video I explained how to get this L shape. You need to make three separate pieces of these. Once made, simply join the two ends by knotting them together on the ‘back’ side (I used square knots).

All tied up!

Then trim off the excess floss, all but the center eight strands (from the last four knots since the string is doubled) which are used to make the bow, as well as join the base together. Above is what it looks like with the strings trimmed.

And how it looks when flipped over to the nice side. Sorta like a concave leaf.

And then I just adjusted it to the shape it’s supposed to be.

Then there were two!

Then there were three! Next we join them together.

All were joined with a Kumihimo braid for just a small segment just to join them with something other than a big knot. it really made it look much better. This was the setup on the kumi disk. A total of 24 strands, and the kumi only went on for one round to get all the strings to come together.

Next I split the braid into two halves and created two Kumihimo braids to make the bow. The setup for this was rather easy since it was just 12 strands. Each braid can go for as long as the strings are, in this case, long enough to tie them into a bow.

This was how it looked all joined together. Like a three-petal flower.

This is a view of the inside, holding it from the base.

Bringing the tips together like a lotus bud, I then joined those top corners with a needle and a bit of string to make the loop to hang it from.

And here it is all completed. It’s not the easiest but it does come out looking very nice.

Any questions??
