My Bracelet, Full Size! Rebuilding the Original 16-String Pattern from Scratch

Today we’re recreating the full-size version of my everyday bracelet using a 16-string single-stranded setup — and testing if the pattern actually fits the template I’ve been using all along 😅

This is basically the extended version of Mandy’s bracelet from yesterday, with the same bold orange and blue combo. While laying it out, I realized my template might have been off this whole time (just a few rows, but still!). So in this video, we fix that, go through the full pattern build, and I walk you through how to spot where colors need to be — especially with overlapping fades and mirrored sections.

🔹 Pattern: 16-string bold fade, mirrored layout
🔹 Difficulty: Intermediate/Advanced
🔹 Key Techniques: Pattern layout, color placement, visual alignment
🔹 Fun Fact: This pattern started as a “yin-yang” concept back in the day!

This is the full-length version of one of my favorite patterns — the same design I used for Mandy’s recent bracelet, now stretched out and done in its original form with all the color switches, mirrored fades, and arrowhead-style segments. 🧡💙

Originally drawn out back in the day with colored pencils and graph paper, this bracelet design has evolved over the years, but the core idea — directional shapes with balanced colors — still holds strong. It’s single-stranded with 16 threads and uses four shades of orange and four of blue. The dominant darker colors frame the pattern, giving it bold contrast and a punchy visual effect.

🧵 Project Notes:

  • Time: Just under 2 hours
  • Setup: 16 single strands
  • Color Placement: Darkest shades get used the most
  • Design Level: Intermediate (but gets easier once you “feel” the flow)

This is one of those patterns I don’t even need to look at anymore — it’s just ingrained in my hands. If you’re new to pattern making, check my earlier videos for step-by-step guides, or explore tutorials on akaawol.com.

Next up: I’ll work out a light-dominant version of this same pattern. Curious how color placement changes the entire vibe? Stick around.
