I Rotated a Beginner Pattern… and It Turned Intermediate
Hello friends! 👋
In today’s friendship bracelet tutorial, I take a super simple beginner dovetail pattern (4 colors, 16 strings) and completely transform it by rotating, flipping, and re-mapping the strings to create something way more dynamic.
What started as an easy bracelet quickly turned into an intermediate-level design with:
- A bold diamond center
- Rotated dovetail sections
- Unexpected color pathways
- Strategic mirroring and string corrections
This is one of those videos where you get to see my real-time improvisation — including the moments where I get a little stumped (which honestly makes it even more fun 😄).
We explore:
- How rotating a pattern changes the flow of strings
- Why mirroring isn’t always as simple as flipping
- How to repair and remap string paths
- How to push beyond “just following a pattern”
This is exactly the kind of creative exploration that helps you move from beginner to designer. 💡
✨ We didn’t just use a pattern… we remixed it.
If you make this bracelet, I’d LOVE to see it!
Share it in the comments or post it in Discord so we can all admire your work-in-progress.
And huge thank you to my YouTube Members — your support helps fund the string and tools that make these projects possible. 💛

As always…
Don’t get your strings in a bunch.

Hey friends! 👋
Today we’re working with Pattern 2858 from friendship-bracelets.net — but of course… we didn’t leave it alone. 😉
The original pattern loops back on itself pretty quickly, so you don’t really get that satisfying “flip” effect. So I changed it up:
✨ Flipped the flow to make it feel like it points inward
✨ Added small custom details instead of strict dovetails
✨ Built everything around a center diamond
✨ Used a four-shade red fade for a bold, cohesive look
And honestly? I love how it turned out.
There’s something really cool happening visually here — the lines almost direct your eye toward the center diamond. Like classic artwork where composition guides you to the focal point. In this bracelet, the diamond becomes the subject. Everything points inward. And that feels intentional… even though part of it started as experimentation.
