Turning a Random Bracelet Photo into a Pattern?!

Someone on Reddit asked for a pattern number for this bracelet…

But you guys already know —
we don’t use pattern numbers. We MAKE patterns. 😏

So today, I reverse-engineered a bracelet straight from a photo and built the pattern from scratch.

🧩 What We Figured Out:

  • 16 strings total (8 per side)
  • 4 black strings
  • 2 red
  • 1 yellow
  • 1 white
  • Centered around a 4-knot white diamond
  • Balanced red mini-diamonds
  • Clean black framing throughout

Instead of guessing randomly, I worked through:
✔ String paths in real time
✔ How the white travels past the red dot
✔ Where the yellow connects into the center
✔ Why the black outlines make the structure work

The best part?
We only had to draft ONE quarter of the pattern… then copy, flip, merge — and boom. Full bracelet. 🙌

That’s the magic of symmetry.

🧵 Why This One Is Cool

  • 16-string layout without chaotic zigzags
  • Several strings travel straight to the edge (hello, clean tension!)
  • Interesting start order:
Black, Yellow, Black, Red, Black, Red, Black, White

It’s structured. It’s intentional.
And honestly? It’s a super satisfying build.

Remember the bracelet I reverse-engineered from a Reddit photo?

Well… today I actually made it. 🙌

And honestly? It’s better than I expected.

🧵 Why This Pattern Is So Fun

This bracelet feels like it has three distinct zones:

  1. The Opening Section
Little figure-eight shapes + arrowhead vibes in red.
  2. The Center Section
Mixed dots, directional changes, and a bold white center diamond.
  3. The Return Section
A mirrored version of the opening that brings everything back together.

That structure makes it feel like you’re constantly working on something new — which honestly makes the time go faster.

🎨 Design Possibilities (This Is Where It Gets Good)

There are SO many tiny decisions in this pattern that could completely change the look:

  • The white dots at the beginning/end?
    Could alternate white-yellow-white instead.
  • The center dot direction?
That could have made the center diamond yellow instead of white.
  • The mid-section dots?
Could have been white/red, all white, or another combo entirely.

That’s what I love about making patterns from scratch — once you understand how the strings move, you can start bending the design to your will. 😏

If you download the pattern from my site, I highly recommend experimenting. Try edits. Remix it. See what version you love most.

📏 Length Adjustments

I doubled my strings, so mine fits shorter.

If you’re using single strands:

  • Extend the repeating diamond section
  • Add more of the figure-eight units
  • Keep the center intact and lengthen the outer zones

Super easy way to customize the final size without redesigning everything.
