This Pattern Went OFF the Rails Unexpected Rainbow Zigzag Design!
I thought I knew where this was going… I was wrong 😄
Today we take a pattern we’ve kind of explored before—but this time we’re changing things up and letting the design evolve in a completely different way.
Instead of sticking to a predictable color flow, we:
🧵 Rotated the pattern
🌈 Introduced a full rainbow
🔍 Mapped the string paths step-by-step
🤯 And discovered the sequence is NOT what you’d expect
💡 One of the biggest surprises:
The colors don’t start in rainbow order—and honestly, that’s part of what makes this design so interesting.
You’ll also notice:
A mix of zigzags and staggered diamonds
Blue expanding into a 4-diamond section (unexpected!)
A center dominated by cool colors, with red peeking through
Even with all that going on, this is still a pretty approachable pattern—you just might need to check your pattern a bit more as you go 😉

Ever make a bracelet and feel like you’ve done it before… but also not? 😄
That’s exactly what happened with pattern 1889.
At first, it felt really familiar—and then it hit me… it’s closely related to pattern 1888, especially when I was experimenting with teardrop starts. But this time, using a standard triangular start and a rainbow color scheme, the result came out completely different.
🧵 In this video:
- Exploring how starting styles change the final design
- Why similar patterns can look totally different
- Using segment knotting to speed things up
- Breaking down the balance between hot and cold colors
- Why blue looks dominant… but actually isn’t
💡 One of the coolest takeaways:
Even when one color appears to take over (looking at you, blue 👀), the actual string usage stays surprisingly balanced.
🎨 This pattern is also super flexible:
You can easily shift the rainbow, swap colors, or completely remix the vibe—definitely worth experimenting with!
⏱️ Total time: About 1 hour
🧵 Setup: 12 strands (6 strings doubled)

Huge thanks to my YouTube Members for making this possible ❤️
And as always…
Don’t get your strings in a bunch.
