From Leftover String to New Bracelet Pattern
Ever finish a bracelet and end up with just enough string left for another project?
That’s exactly what inspired today’s design! After finishing a bracelet, I had eight strands left over and started wondering what the same pattern would look like as a much thinner, single-strand bracelet.
In this video, I create the pattern from scratch, follow the path of each string through the design, and figure out exactly how the colors interact as they travel toward the center and back out again. It’s a great look at the planning process that happens before the bracelet is ever tied.
By the end, we reveal the complete pattern and get a preview of what the finished bracelet should look like. I think this one is going to turn out really cool!

A while back, I designed a thinner version of one of my favorite bracelet patterns using leftover string from the pink bracelet I made for my 1,000th video. Then life happened.
I planned to make it on the cruise ship… but I got sick and left the string at home. 😅
Now I’ve finally gotten around to making it, and honestly, I’m glad I did.
This bracelet belongs to the arrowhead family, but with a twist. Instead of repeating the traditional yin-yang interaction that inspired the original design, I let the pattern stretch out and evolve on its own. The result is a thin bracelet with a surprising amount of visual impact.
What really caught me off guard was how the colors interacted. The light color naturally moves into the center, and because it’s immediately followed by the darkest color, the contrast creates a dramatic focal point that I didn’t fully anticipate when designing the pattern.
A few notes about this bracelet:
✔ Original AWOL design
✔ Single-strand 8-string bracelet
✔ Intermediate difficulty
✔ Approximately 2 hours to complete
✔ Great opportunities for color experimentation
✔ Works beautifully despite not rotating strings
This is one of those patterns that feels incredibly intuitive to me. Once I get started, the shape almost builds itself. I’d love to know whether it feels the same way when you try it.
What colors would you use?
