Weird Bracelet Pattern (2131) — And It Was HARDER Than Expected
Today we’re diving into pattern 2131 from friendship-bracelets.net… but not in the usual way 👀 Instead of just following it, I rebuild and redesign the pattern from scratch—adjusting spacing, simplifying zigzags, and figuring out how the colors actually flow. And honestly? This one turned out to be trickier than I expected!
We explore: How to analyze and reconstruct a pattern Simplifying complex zigzag sections Understanding string paths and crossings Why some designs look simple… but aren’t 😅 This is a great example of moving beyond just following patterns and starting to think like a designer. If you’ve ever looked at a bracelet and thought “how does that even work?” — this is for you. 💬

So I finally made pattern 2131 from friendship-bracelets.net… and I’ve got thoughts 😅
This one surprised me—not because it’s impossible, but because of the tradeoffs in the design. Some sections feel unnecessarily complicated, especially where the colors have to zigzag just to land in the right spots.
In this video, I break down:
- Why this pattern feels harder than expected
- The tricky diamond sections with alternating colors
- How shortening the spacing actually made things easier
- Real-world issues like string usage imbalance
- Tips to keep your knots clean and consistent
⏱️ Total time: Just over an hour
This is definitely more of an intermediate bracelet, and one where you’ll want to keep checking the pattern as you go.
💡 Biggest takeaway:
Sometimes simplifying a design doesn’t just save time—it makes the whole experience better.
🧵 Tips from This Project
- Move your bracelet closer to the clip for tighter knots
- Watch your string lengths (some get used WAY faster!)
- Don’t be afraid to modify patterns to suit your style
