I Reverse-Engineered THIS Bracelet Pattern… and Found Something Unexpected
Today we’re diving into and breaking down pattern #2906 from friendship-bracelets.net—but instead of just following it, we’re analyzing it, transforming it, and figuring out how the strands actually behave.
We rotate the pattern, isolate a key center motif, and rebuild it step-by-step using my template from akaawol.com. Along the way, things get interesting…
How many strands do you really need?
Can some colors be just a single string?
Why does one strand end up doing way more work than expected?
And what happens to tension in a design like this?
There’s a lot going on under the surface of this pattern, and it’s a great example of how you can go beyond just tying knots and start understanding structure and flow in your designs.
I’m also experimenting with color ideas (maybe earthy/tribal vibes 👀), so stay tuned for the follow-up where I actually make the bracelet and see what we learn in practice.

In this follow-up to our pattern breakdown, I finally made pattern #2906 from friendship-bracelets.net—and let’s just say… it was more challenging than expected 😅
At first glance, it doesn’t look too bad. But once you get into it, a few tricky things pop up:
- A large section where knots can go in almost any direction (and that’s not always a good thing)
- Subtle color differences that don’t show up well on camera
- Dense clusters of knots that require consistency to keep the bracelet looking clean
- And a surprising learning curve that smooths out… eventually
⏱️ Total time: just over an hour (with a small recording hiccup in the middle 😬)
One big takeaway: consistency matters more than perfection.
Even when sections feel chaotic, choosing a direction and sticking with it can make a huge difference in the final result.
Also—color choice matters a LOT. The two shades of brown created a subtle shadow effect in person, but didn’t translate as well on camera. If I did this again, I’d push for stronger contrast.
This is video #999 (wild, right?!)—and it’s got me thinking about what the next 1000 are going to look like. More experiments, more pattern deep-dives, and definitely more opportunities to push beyond just following patterns.
